$20 pieces vs. eagles
Is the gold content the same for both $20 pieces and eagles?
I know they don't make $20 pieces anymore but when push comes to shove, doesn't it boil down to the actual amount of gold in a coin? Thx |

The US$20 gold coins were minted from 1849 till 1933 gold was valued at $20.67 per ounce so 20/20.67= .967 ounces of gold. The gold american eagles minted from 1986 to date are 1 ounce of gold. Both coins are alloyed are 90% (.916) gold and a 10% copper/silver alloy. |

Re: $20 pieces vs. eagles
$20s are 90% (.900), Eagles are 22K (.9167)
You will pay a numismatic or "semi-numismatic" premium on the $20s because of their antique status. Unless you can get them much nearer to spot than usual, you are better off with the Eagles, more gold, better liquidity. |

Re: $20 pieces vs. eagles
Awesome coins ! But too soft. They should have opted for .900 or .9167

Re: $20 pieces vs. eagles
They are making them only in 2009 and I believe that all of them will be in proof condition.
You better get a few PCGS PR70 and sit on em |
